Eisteddfod – Congratulations to all our groups who participated in the Eisteddfod over the past week. Read further in the newsletter to see the results. Thank you must also go to the dedicated staff who have trained and supported our students throughout the year. Thank you also to our parent community who ensure that children are practicing and attending lessons and rehearsals when required.
Book Week Parade – We are looking forward to the fun of our Book Week parade this Friday. We have a special song and dance that our teachers have been teaching the students across the term. The serious part of Book Week is to foster a love of reading and to encourage children to read. In a world filled with screens and distractions, nurturing a love of reading is one of the most powerful gifts we can give our children.
Semester 1 Results – We as a school get a report card at the end of each semester based upon our A – E results. Pleasingly, we are above the statewide target for all areas of academic achievement, and we are on track to ensuring that we are achieving our school academic targets for 2025. Our Semester 1 results are:
English C and above 87% - Statewide target is 80%
English B and above 54% - Statewide target is 50%
Maths C and above 76% - Statewide target is 80%
Maths B and above 58% - Statewide target is 50%
School Opinion Survey – Don’t forget to complete your school opinion survey which was emailed to parents/carers on 21st July. The survey is anonymous, and the results are not reported in ways that an individual’s response can be identified by the school. Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to complete the survey.
The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with an internet connection. For Parents/Caregivers who do not have access to the internet school computers/tablets will be available. Parents/caregivers who experience difficulties accessing the survey can request a new survey from the School Opinion Survey team via email schoolopinionsurvey@qed.qld.gov.au.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
To this date we have had 105 families complete their school opinion survey. This is 23.5% of surveys that have been sent out. We would love to hear from you and invite you to fill out the survey by this Friday when it closes.
Let’s Talk about Bullying!
Preventing and responding to bullying is a shared responsibility. When parents, carers, schools and communities work together, we can create safer, more inclusive learning environments. By modelling kindness, empathy and respect, we help young people feel safe, valued and connected.
What is and is not bullying? Understanding the definition of bullying is the first step in preventing and responding to bullying. 'Bullying' is a word that is regularly used for behaviours that are not actually bullying. These other behaviours can be just as serious but may require different responses.

Use opportunities in conversation
Parents and teachers can use the opportunities that arise to talk with children and young people about how people behave in various social situations and how people get on with each other.
If a child or young person tells you about things at school or you observe something in public that involves conflict or bullying, and if it is appropriate, take the opportunity to talk about what bullying is.
Talk about what bullying is before it happens so children can recognise it and know what to do.
First, make sure you have a clear idea yourself by checking out the formal definition of bullying on the understanding bullying page. You can also find additional information about the definition of bullying that has been modified to suit a range of ages.
Point out that bullying is not just when someone is mean to you once, but it happens repeatedly and makes you feel like you can't stop it. You could use some of the following questions to support your discussion.
- What do you think 'bullying' is?
- Have you seen bullying happening? What did you do? How did you feel?
- Why do you think some people bully other kids?
- Who are the adults you would talk to when it comes to things like bullying?
- Have you ever felt scared to go to school because you were afraid of someone bullying you?
- Has someone tried to bully you? What ways have you tried to change it?
- What do you think parents can do to help stop bullying?
- Have you or your friends left other kids out on purpose? Do you think that was bullying? Why or why not?
- Have you ever tried to help someone who is being bullied? What happened? What would you do if it happens again?
Tell children that bullying can happen to anyone but it is never okay. Talk about how to respond to bullying safely. Make sure children know what to do if it happens to them or they see it happening to someone else.
Together, we can work to support children and individuals who experience bullying.

SEEN The Film · A Parent TV Documentary is an Australian produced film. SEEN will encourage parents to consider how their own past may be influencing their children.
The film acknowledges that we live in an age where, as parents and caregivers, there is more information than ever before. How much screen time is the right amount of screen time for our children? How best can we manage our children's daily meltdowns? Time in, time out, clear boundaries, feel all the feelings - what's best? We are hearing more and more reactive advice on how best to manage our children, yet we are missing the root cause and solution.
SEEN hopes to trigger mass awareness and a deeper understanding for individuals, leading to bottom-up change in families throughout Australia and beyond.
We are at a critical juncture, with our children needing us more than ever before. We, as individuals and within our families and communities, are being prompted to discover a new approach. An approach that will have a positive influence on not only those around us, but society as a whole. We hope you can join us in working towards this change.
