Principal News
What a wonderful celebration of all things Arts at Fitzgerald over the past week. From our little stars who were potentially taking to the big stage for the first time on Wednesday night to the Year 6 students who ran such a great show on Thursday evening the smiles and enjoyment was evident across all performances. Our Drama, Wakakirri and CAID students all performed supremely as did our small instrumental ensemble who played in the foyer and this Principal may have had a tear in her eye with the pride she felt.
Can I say a big thank you to all who supported the Spectacular this year whether you be a volunteer, a staff member or a parent transporting your child to the numerous out of hours rehearsals. It takes a village to plan and produce this production and I appreciate the effort that everyone put in.
As we approach Week 7 and into the end of year activities and events, it is important to keep in our minds the school’s expectations around being a Learner, being Safe, being Respectful and being Responsible. When we are focussed on ensuring that we follow these expectations, we can be our best selves and get the most out of the learning and opportunities that are offered every day. Our current Fitzy Focus is around the expectation Be Safe: I keep my hands, feet and objects to myself. Our catchphrase is, “Personal space makes Fitzy a safe place!”
Students are being offered swimming in weeks 9 & 10 of the Term and they travel by bus to Paradise Street Swim Centre and Pat Wright Swim Centre to do these lessons with qualified swim instructors. This means that it is incredibly important that children are at school over the next two weeks as this will be when the bulk of assessments are completed in preparation for reporting. Please ensure that unless children are sick that they are at school.
We are currently holding interviews with families wishing to enrol students at Fitzgerald for the 2025 school year. We would invite any families wishing to enrol students next year to make a booking for an enrolment interview in the coming weeks. Currently we are looking at 25 or 26 classrooms depending upon enrolments and are compiling classes for next year now. Our school bump up afternoon is on Friday the 6th of December where students will get the opportunity to be with their class and meet their new teacher.
We have only one more round of Prep Transitions to go in the coming two weeks. We have loved meeting the new Preps coming to Fitzgerald in 2025 and look forward to seeing their progress across the next 12 months. We will be holding a quick parent meeting at the start of the Prep transition sessions while the children are with the teachers. Booklists will be handed out at this time.

Spectacular 2024
2A Spectacular Recounts
MAC:
On Wednesday night Year 2A performed Jail House Rock. It was so fun but at the same time it was scary. Everyone was shining! I was so proud! It was so dark, I couldn’t see anything!
HAYLEY:
Last night I performed at the MECC. I was dressed in black and white prison clothes. I was dancing to Jail House Rock by Elvis Presley. We were as shiny as the Rainbow Fish. My favourite action we did was the air guitar. We had lots of lollies. We looked like standing zebras! I was nervous and excited at the same time.
CARTER M:
Last night I finally performed Jail House Rock. I was so excited, it was the BEST! Firstly, I was waiting in the MECC. I was scared and excited at the same time. I knew that when the Year One’s were finally done it would be our turn to rock to the awesome song, ‘Jail House Rock’. When we were finally done, I looked for my parents. When I found them, I finally went to McDonald’s for my well-earned treat!
MIA:
On Wednesday night 2A went to the MECC. Hundreds of people were waiting for us to do our dance in prison clothes on stage. I was super nervous and excited at the same time, then the curtain opened! Everyone was cheering when we went on and danced. I was hungry, happy, nervous, excited, bored, tired and puffed all at the same time. We went off stage and my family and I got McDonalds.
PARKER:
On Wednesday night 2A performed Jail House Rock at the MECC. My heart was pumping very fast and I was nervous. I was really confident that I’d do everything right!
ERICA:
Last night at the MECC we were waiting to do our dance in stripy prison clothes. Finally Spectacular was here! My class 2A performed Jail House Rock. My teeth were chattering because I was dancing in front of the curtain and I was worried that I would fall off! CLAP, CLAP, CLAP went the crowd. I felt proud!
CARTER E:
Last night I performed at the MECC. I danced with two of my friends. Then we got in our lines and we went on stage and danced to Jail House Rock. We wore jail clothes and everyone cheered for us! My favourite part was when I was in front of the curtains!
ALYSSA:
I was so excited! Finally Spectacular was here! In the waiting room I could not stop looking at our shiny but stripy and amazing clothes. On stage I was so nervous and could not see my mum! After I got lollies and drank my soft drink and pizza. I can’t wait for next year.

Slide to be upgraded at Annie Wood Park
Mackay Regional Council would like to advise that Annie Wood Park playground in Mount Pleasant is getting a makeover.
As part of the work, one of the open top slides on the existing play structure is being replaced with a larger closed tube slide.
Other minor maintenance work is also being completed.
The playground will be closed from Monday, November 4, to Friday, November 15, weather permitting, to allow for the installation of the new slide and associated foundation work.
Council thanks you for your patience and apologises for any inconvenience caused by this closure.
